Al-Ahsa Airport Expands to Host One Million Passengers

Prince Saud bin Nayef, Governor of the Eastern Province, inaugurated the development and expansion project in Al-Ahsa International Airport on April 24, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The total area of the project exceeded 58,000 square meters. It included two international terminals with a total area of 2,660 square meters and ten gates for national and international departure and arrival.

Moreover, the new project involves expanding the passenger lounges, and increasing the operational capacity of the travel check-in platforms and disks by more than 40%, encompassing 12 platforms for international and domestic flights.

The number of passport counters was increased by 100% to reach 16 counters for arrival and departure.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) President, Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, announced the increase of long-term parking lots that can accommodate more than 400 cars.

He added that today the airport’s capacity became one million passengers instead of 400,000. This expansion will enhance air traffic and flourish the tourism industry in a region full of tourist attractions at the local and regional levels.

Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr, Governor of Al-Ahsa, mentioned that this project is the largest one over the history of the airport.

Saleh Al-Jasser, the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, indicated that the latest development reflects the vital role of the airport system in achieving Saudi Vision 2030.

It is noteworthy that this launch came after more than one million safe working hours, without any accidents, during construction operations.
