Saudi Airports Receive 112 Mln Travelers in 2023

Airports in Saudi Arabia broke an unprecedented record as the number of travelers reached 112 million in 2023, reported Al Arabiya. This number grew by 26% compared to 2022 and by 8% compared to 2019, affirming that the Kingdom’s air transport sector recovered from the repercussion covid-19 pandemic.

The number of flights through the Kingdom’s airports reached about 815 thousand flights in 2023, an increase of 16% compared to 2022, according to the air traffic performance report issued by the General Authority of Civil Aviation.

The Kingdom witnessed record growth in terms of the number of passengers and international flights during the past year, reaching about 61 million passengers. The number of flights reached more than 394 thousand flights.

King Abdulaziz International Airport topped the list of major Saudi airports in terms of the number of flights, with an average of 30 flights per Hour. King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh came in second place with a rate of 27 flights per hour.

The rate of flights at King Fahd International Airport, which came in third, reached 11 flights per hour. Domestic flights during the year 2023 recorded a noticeable increase in the number of passengers and flights, as the number of passengers rose up to about 51 million passengers, through more than 421 thousand domestic flights from various airports in the Kingdom.

The volume of air freight at Saudi airports during 2023 witnessed a growth of more than 7%, with a total of about 918 thousand tons, compared to 854 thousand tons in 2022.
