Saudi Finance Min. Calls for Increased Global Efforts to Address Climate Change

Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan stressed from Washington that challenges facing the world, including climate change, require concerted efforts of everyone, according to Al Sharq Alawsat.

Al-Jadaan also pointed out the need for a clear and comprehensive mechanism to exchange information among stakeholders. He highlighted this while participating in the round table meeting on global sovereign debt at the spring meetings of the IMF and World Bank in Washington.

During his participation in the first session of the second meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the G20 under the Brazilian presidency, Al-Jadaan stressed that effective governance of climate action requires a comprehensive approach that recognizes the multiple solutions to address the challenges of climate change, including technical solutions to address emissions.

Al-Jadaan also stressed, during his participation in the meeting of finance ministers and governors of the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan region with Fund Director Kristalina Georgieva, the importance of implementing effective financial policies to enhance flexibility and sustainability in light of the current unstable circumstances.

The Minister met with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the BNP Paribas Banking Group, Jean Lemierre, the Global Head of Official Institutional Coverage, Laurent Lévec, and the Head of Debt Capital Markets, Alexis Taven. During this meeting, areas of progress achieved in Saudi Arabia and issues related to attracting investment and alternative financing were discussed.
