Saudi Space Agency to Establish Center for Space Futures with WEF

Saudi Space Agency has signed an agreement today with the World Economic Forum (WEC) to establish ‘The Centre for Space Futures’ in the Kingdom to support the innovative space research, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The centre, slated to open this Autumn, aims to accelerate the progress of the space technologies in the Kingdom, foster space cooperation, and exchange global knowledge and expertise.

“The center is dedicated to providing a vibrant, prosperous, and sustainable space economy globally,” said Saudi Space Agency CEO Dr. Mohammed Altamimi.

Through establishing a global platform for all space development and technologies, the centre will provide an exclusive link to the Fourth Industrial Revolution community to maximize best practices and technical innovation of space.

“By developing principles, expanding knowledge, refining models and cultivating partnerships, we aim to responsibly harness the vast opportunities of space,” Altamimi added.

This landmark deal aligns with the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Saudi Arabia (C4IR) aiming at developing and implementing practical protocols of cutting-edge technologies.

“From monitoring the effects of climate change to increasing human connectivity via satellites, the impact of the global space sector on Earth cannot be overstated,” World Economic Forum Managing Director Jeremy Jurgens stated.

Jurgens noted that the newly established centre will cooperate with C4IR to ensure the integration between the state-of-the-art technologies and space innovations.

The centre is anticipated to enrich the Saudi Vision 2030 by investing in the space economy. The Kingdom has recently played a pivotal role in manufacturing, launching, operating satellites, and future space-related missions.

In 2023, Saudi Space Agency launched the Saudi Space Accelerator Program that aims to enhance the national space sector by developing infrastructure and empowering local entrepreneurs to drive innovative space solutions.
